April 2007 TriLUG Meeting - April 12, 2007 at Red Hat HQ - Meldware & SC Nominations

2007-04-04

The April 2007 meeting of the Triangle Linux Users Group will be April 12, 2007 at Red Hat HQ (directions link). Our sponsor for the April meeting is Altair Engineering (More info).

The speaker will be Andrew C. Oliver, CTO of BuniSoft. Andrew will introduce Meldware Communication Suite, an open source, multi-platform groupware package for Linux. The presentation will give an overview of Meldware, its Mail Server, Calendar Server, Webmail and Webcalendar as well as its Administration GUI. The talk will cover some of the technical details including Meldware's flexible email storage using any RDBMS or file system and the integration between the Calendar server and popular clients such as Mozilla Thunderbird, Novell Evolution and even Microsoft Outlook. The talk will wrap up with a demo, a brief description of the Buni.org communication software development community and a call to action for BETTER protocol standards in Email and Scheduling.

We will also be accepting nominations for election to the Steering Committee at this meeting. Nominations are open for all five steering committee positions and should be sent to the TriLUG discussion list or to nominate privately, via the Contact TriLUG page. Nominations must be received by May 4, 2007 at 23:59:59. Please note that SC members are elected "at large" and then decide amongst themselves which position they will occupy. Nominations need not be seconded. You can nominate anyone, but they must accept your nomination to be eligible for election. You can nominate yourself.

Contact Us page

2007-02-09

In order to simplify administration and provide more direct, responsive contact to the Steering Committee for the membership, we have created a Contact Us page. Please use the following URL to send information, requests, or comments to the SC.

http://www.trilug.org/contact

This also means that the SC mailing list, steering@trilug.org, will switched over to reject mail from non-list-members. This list receives too much spam to be an effective conduit for communication to the SC. To ease the transition, information on the new Contact Us page has been placed in the supplemental reject notice .

Thanks for your attention.

Recruiters please note: If you are here to request a mailing list posting about a job:

  • The best way to present jobs is to come to our meeting and participate in our "Have-a-Job/Need-a-Job" segment. This segment allows any person with an opening or any person seeking a job to stand up in front of the entire group and talk for a few minutes. See the trilug.org for info about the next meeting.
  • If you can not attend a meeting, the next-best way is to join the main discussion mailing list and post your job to the list. Please put the word "JOB" in the subject. Note: we monitor posts to the list. Recruiters who post irrelevant job postings or who "spam" the list with a lot of posts will be "moderated" or removed from the mailing list.

If you have something that you would like to bring to the attention of the Steering Committee, fill in the form below. This is not the place to post job openings. This form sends an email directly to the five steering committee members.
